Home Sweet Home.....

Kenny is home and resting now. He looks terrific - comparatively! He is doing well and we just have a few things to monitor. He ended up not having to have a blood transfusion but platelets and iron are low so he is on an iron rich diet and is taking supplemental iron as well. Blood sugar is high due to the Cortisol produced with stress from having heart surgery so no refined sugar or starches and supplemental insulin as needed. Lastly we are watching his temperature closely for signs of infection.

Other than that, pain is the biggest thing - which we are managing with Percocet as needed and the wonderful ONQ pump that delivers lidocaine directly to the incision site. I will post some pictures soon. Thanks again for your prayers!

Out of ICU and doing well...

Kenny has made substantial progress these last couple of days. Tuesday he was able to get up and walk a bit and at the end of the day was able to get two of the PIC lines out (he had a total of 3). Wednesday was the big day, he got his chest tubes out and started really getting his color back. Late Wednesday night they moved him out of ICU into a Telemetry Room.

Today he is better still with improved mobility and color. We are still having a few issues with Potasium and Blood Sugar levels, but these are normal things post heart surgery. Only one PIC line remains and it looks like he may come home tomorrow! He is doing very well, but will require a lot of care and time to heal. He gets winded easily and won't be able to push, pull or lift for several months, and will be eating a modified diet for a while - I think this may be the hardest for him. He wishes to thank everyone for their prayers and well wishes over the past week - love to all.
